I am so delighted to be nominated for Composer of the Year at the MG ALBA Scots Trad Music Awards 2023! There's a whole gang of master musicians up for awards and I'm honoured to be in their company.

Empty Promise Land is a duet with Dirk Powell, written by him many years ago and featuring Mark Knopfler whose guitar sings like a dobro. It dramatises the end of a relationship, male and female voices reaching a shared place of resignation: "This woman whose life is boiling underneath her skin/This lonely man who's longing for his dreams again".
